D-Orbit is looking for new colleagues to join our Spaceflight Operations Team


As Spaceflight Operation Engineer you will be tasked of commanding and controlling D-Orbit's Fleet of Carriers and Reconnaissance and Servicing Vessels. From D-Orbit's mission control centre, you will conduct end-to-end mission operations, from design to execution, from launch to final deorbiting. Activities like satellite tasking, telemetry dump and post-processing, contingency and ground operations, failure detections and recovery as long as operations planning and scheduling, and flight dynamics will be part of D-Orbit's Spaceflight Operations team duties.


Tasks

  • Command and control the company's proprietary satellites and their payloads
  • Detailed operations requirements and design definitions
  • Interfacing with all subsystems and software team to define use cases, on-ground and on-orbit operations
  • Support to ground systems and integration with space segment
  • On-orbit operations procedures definitions and verification
  • On-orbit operations planning, scheduling and execution throughout the missions
  • Flight dynamics maintenance and manoeuvre planning
  • Anomaly identification and resolution
  • Authoring of Technical documents

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Knowledge of System Engineering, Orbital and Attitude Dynamics
  • Knowledge of Spaceflight Operations
  • Knowledge of flight dynamics tools (Orekit, GMAT, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Ground Segment architectures
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python)
  • Availability to work outside normal office working hours
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive attitude and ability to work in team and individually
  • Experience in spaceflight operations and/or AIV processes is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of spaceflight dynamics and manoeuvre planning is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with On-Board Control Procedures concepts is a plus

Education

Advanced University degree (master's degree or equivalent), preferably in Aerospace/Space Engineering


Language

Full professional proficiency of English language is mandatory

As an integral part of the group, you will be involved in the design, verification and validation, including launch and on-orbit operations of the various D-Orbit spacecraft platforms. As AIV engineer, your main focus will be on the verification and validation activities, including environmental test campaign and participation to the launch vehicle integration activities at the launch base. Your ultimate objective as AIV systems engineer is to verify ensure your systems, the spacecraft, is compliant vs the applicable requirements and validated against the user needs in the real operative mission.   You will work together with other systems engineers, following the full design and development cycle of the systems product, starting from the preliminary design and the requirements capture, preliminary systems architecture and detailed systems/subsystems design, analysis and trade-off, definition of the verification campaign, test plan and procedures, execution of the tests on first prototypes and final requirements compliance assessment. This is not a role for just a pure software test engineer but also for an experienced embedded software engineer because you will have to design and to develop applications for satellite simulator and test environment. You will become part of a growing software Verification and Validation (V&V) group responsible for ensuring software quality across a range of embedded and high performance applications in space. The main objective of your work will be designing and developing of HIL satellite simulator, improving the V&V infrastructure to enable the simulation of new sensors and actuators. The job will also focus on the automated test procedures for the flight software of avionic platforms used on board of our spacecrafts under development. Within a continuous integration environment, you will contribute to the entire application lifecycle with a focus on the test and integration. Designing and improving new V&V features to our SW delivery pipeline. Through these activities and by working with the all technical teams involved in the spacecraft development process you will deliver exciting new features and directly support on-going spacecraft V&V activities and operations.
